The four lagoons are situated in the upper part of the Vilcanota river. The first of the circuit is called Pomacanchi that is 140 meters deep. Around this lagoon there are lots of natural grass and many medicinal species as well such as totora, mirmi, etc. Among the main species of fishes there are trouts, athineas, etc. The second lagoon is small and it is called Acopia located near the village of the same name.

There are varieties of flora and fauna very similar to those found in the lagoon of Pomacanchi. The third lagoon is Asnaqocha "lagoon of bad smell" for its name in Quechua. From this lagoon there is a quite disgusting smell and there is little variety of flora and fauna. The fourth lagoon is the highest of the circuit (3750 m.a.s.l.) and it is called Pampamarca. It embraces a great variety of wild fauna such as "parihuanas" and wild ducks, all of these animals thanks to the abundance of totora surrounding the lagoon. Sportive fishing is mainly practised in Pampamarca.
