Murder tiredness, green paths, difficult breath. Going up and down by horrible bridle paths. Walking among giant snowy peaks, lagoons reflect the sky and an especial vegetation where there are lots of flowers. Full of adventure. Demanding adventure. Definite adventure in the skirts of a great chain of mountains.
The trails of Huayhuash Time passes despite the indifference of the travelers who only notice it when the sun appears or disappears in the horizon or the stars spark in the sky. Nobody looks at their watch, everybody looks at the path, all of them try to overcome height and not to fall down while going down. Our physical condition suffers but the amazing landscape encourages our will, feeds the souls of the "passengers" of the Chain of Mountains of Huayhuash at 420 kilometers to the north of Lima and 4,300 m.a.s.l. It is one of the best ten trekking in the world. Who has time or wants to look at the hands of the clock? In spite of the severe cold at night and even the most vehement person may fall down for being tired, the audacious walkers would always prefer spending their energies in the dusty paths rather than appreciating the attractions of nature hidden behind the warm window of the bus. |

Huayhuash is all a challenge and it is not appropriate for beginners. Only experienced adventurers with firm steps can go along its beautiful geography. Here everything is beautiful even tiredness because the specialist are not wrong when they classified this circuit as one of the best ten routes of trekking in the world.
Imposing and difficult is the route of the chain of mountains of Huayhuash that is situated along the department of Ancash (border with Huanuco). A snowy chain that shelters the second highest tropical mountain in the world: the Yerupaja with 6634 meters high apart from the six strong blocks of more than 6,000 meters and fifteen which are more than 5,4000 meters. Sometimes, you will feel that the distant summits of Siulá (6352 meters), the Sarapo (6,127 meters) or the Jirishanca (6,094 meters) will go along with your clever steps. Although it is just an amazing visual effect because the huge peaks are quiet watching surprisingly the journey of the anxious travelers who are invading its territory. Travel by high areas Everything starts at the little mirror of the sky (3,374 m.a.s.l.): a privileged town because of its beauty that is situated in the heart of the Conchucos Passage at 110 kilometers to the south of Huaraz (3,052 m.a.s.l.), the capital of the department of Ancash. Chiquian is the beginning of an adventure that according to the chosen route may be done as far as 180 kilometers which can be done in 12 days of demanding walk because there are many difficulties and exhausting slopes. They are the associates of the impertinent cold invading everywhere even the thickest coat. Difficulties seem to be the entrance tickets that nature asks the walkers. They really have to persevere in order to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and amazing views such as the Jahuacocha and the Solterococha: two huge lagoons formed with the tears of the glaciers where we can find delicious trouts. But the hard part is not only the slopes or the way down by the glacial storages but also it is about facing the night below zero and the work hours at more than four thousand m.a.s.l. as much as possible. It is crossing small streams forming brave noisy rivers and overcoming frightening ravines. All a challenge of resistance. An energy consumer path, fantastic path leading to wet shores where it is possible to see geese, ibis and garzas. Then you will be able to discover a sky full of stars and constellations going inside a wood of pepper trees and odoriferous eucalyptus and crossing simple towns such as Llamac, Pocpa and Pacllon: peasant communities of silence but friendly heart men. It is about not fainting. Insisting despite of the difficulties. Only in that way you can arrive at a magic space like Punta Cuyoc at the southeast of the mountainous chain. It is the highest point of the circuit of 5 000 meters. For this last reason we can appreciate the Huayhuash chain of mountain in all its beauty. What else can you ask? Huayhuash is a fantastic chain of mountains with curved paths leading to adventure. Do you listen its calls?… So prepare your bag and get ready to leave. |
