EL CABILDO
The Town Hall is on one complete side of the square where they had the old "Cabildo" and then the republic Prefecture. Its wide facade has an arch of two floors with two times more little arches on the second one. This high gallery was used as a privileged place to observe festivities celebrated in the square. The interior joins around a big square stone patio. Currently, an important area of the old building is used as the base of the Contemporary Art Museum of Cusco.
A gallery of handicrafts
As the traditional trade place it was, the "Plaza del Regocijo" still receives handicraft and souvenir vendors under its porticos as well as cafes and restaurants that make of this place a lively area.
On the left of Jesús Maria and on the corner with the Admiral hill, we still see the small building that was the base of the frightening "Tribunal del Santo Oficio" or "Inquisición". It is a small stony building, with an external tiny gallery. Nothing inside reminds us of its original purpose.

HOUSE OF THE TIGER STREET
Address: At the corner of Tigre and Saphi streets.
Description: This large house of huge areas date from the XVI century,
though its current facade is the result of a whole reconstruction
performed in the XVIII century. It was built on one side of the old
bridge over the "Saphi" where the rebel Inca Tupac Amaru I marched
in 1573 when he went to the gallows.
Since 1934, the House became a "Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad"
property, first as a Museum and Archaeological Institute and currently
as the base of the rectorship. Its last restoration work was finished
in 1992. It recovered all its structures even the magnificent arches
of the main patio and an especial balcony on two streets: Tigre and
Saphi. In the room of the University Assembly, we can admire some
nice paintings, coming from the farm of Huambutio. They represent
a philosopher of ancient times in a local version of neoclassic style.
